Each year, the City of Tea Tree Gully and Youth Leadership Group hosts a Youth Leadership Conference. In 2021, they were thrilled to be working with the Volunteering Strategy for SA to deliver the 2021 Young Changemakers Conference held at Golden Grove Arts and Recreation Centre on Thursday 21 October 2021.
The conference was an opportunity for young people to share ideas, build connections and ultimately gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to drive positive future change for our communities through volunteering. The conference included keynote speakers, breakout sessions, panel discussion, a volunteer expo, leadership skills building activities and networking opportunities for attendees to draw inspiration from like-minded young people volunteering in different ways and in different contexts.
90 of the most active, inspiring, and influential young people from across our Northern suburbs’ secondary schools were drawn to the conference including representatives from volunteer involving organisations and educators.
Volunteering Strategy for SA Partnership Board members had the privilege of participating by sitting on the judging panel for an activity called Shape your City.
Shape your City provided opportunity for students to work in teams with other students from different schools to think about how they could create a project, event or activity that promotes positive, inclusive, and meaningful volunteering and which also addressed a theme selected from animal welfare, homelessness, social connection or environment.
Students were asked to draw their design and then construct a prototype of their project using Lego.
Well done to all volunteering champions and young people involved in delivering a successful conference.
