UN Sustainable Development Goal: 3, 4, 15
Why is this project important
The project is important because it brings together multiple organisations to support the children in their understanding of the benefits of volunteering.
Key steps to make it happen
The Playford 10 Volunteer Project is delivered at Elizabeth Grove Primary School as part of the Playford 10 project through the City of Playford and in collaboration with local organisations. The volunteer project works with organisations in the community to create a shared benefit and experience for the children and the clients or patients of the organisations (ie: Calvary Central Districts hospital patients; ECH aged care clients). The children, in conjunction with local artists work together throughout the school year on an art project, co-designed with the organisations and then celebrated together at the end of the school year. The project has multiple curriculum opportunities in literacy, arts, numeracy, and importantly to build personal and social capabilities.
Impact to date
- 88 children and 3 teachers at Elizabeth Grove Primary School participate in the project
- Highly successful project seeing the community work together with kindness, love and people helping each other, showing teamwork, and things happening outside of the school community.
- Children involved in the project have an opportunity to show people what they have to offer and for organisations in the community to support them in their development
- Project has given participating children an opportunity to see their worth, to grow up knowing they can make a difference in their own community,
