Why this project is important
The Business and Corporate Volunteering program is a great way for a business and its staff to connect and contribute to their community. The program is often seen as a key component of an organisations wellbeing programs and can improve staff morale, motivation and team spirit.
Key steps to make it happen
Volunteering SA&NT professionally manage the program, connecting businesses and corporates to not-for-profit organisations. They organise and administer all aspects of the program customised to the needs of both employer and employees.
Nine staff members from Barenbrug, one of Australia’s leading seed businesses, volunteered their time to clear a walking trial at Malcolm Wicks Reserve, Forest Range in the Adelaide Hills. Without the help of Barenbrug volunteers, the National Trust of South Australia may not have completed one of their wonderful walking trials available in South Australia.
Impact to date
- Positive connection with a not-for-profit – ‘The program provided a fantastic opportunity for staff to not only network and connect with each other, but also to help a not-for-profit organisation and to really make a valuable contribution.’
- Sense of team spirit – ‘Those on-site really felt a part of something special and it was great to see the hard word put in at the end of the shift – it really provided a strong sense of accomplishment.’
- Worthwhile experience – ‘With so many businesses and corporates currently providing their workforce with paid leave, one of two days a year to volunteer – to do it through a structured program – has lessened the amount of time for our own staff to coordinate. It was terrific.’
